Smith Street Arts & Lettres is a progressive French-American K-8 school in Brooklyn, NY. Our bilingual curriculum emphasizes a Reggio-Emilia inspired, holistic approach to education. Admissions Director

We are looking for a full-time Director of Admissions for our growing school. Please email us with your resume and cover letter.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead family meetings, tours, and playdates, information sessions, open houses, and other admissions related events.

  • Manage the admissions process from start to finish.

  • Maintain prospective family pipeline, which will include creating a file once an application is submitted, and maintaining that file throughout the admissions process.

  • Plan, develop and execute student recruitment strategies to drive application growth and achieve enrollment goals, in partnership with school leadership.

  • Increase awareness of school admissions through outreach, which includes building relationships with local companies, organizations, associations, communities, and currently enrolled and new families.

  • Coordinate enrollment events from concept to implementation.

  • Speak with prospective families knowledgeably and confidently about the school's program.

  • Follow-up with families in a timely manner who are in our admissions pipeline which will include phone calls and e-mails to those on our interest list to build relationships with new families and students.

  • Write and send enrollment newsletters, blog posts, and other communication to the school's interest list; this may include managing social media channels.

  • Meet specific lead and enrollment goals and benchmarks.

  • Develop relationships with other NYC Independent Schools in order to share best practices.


ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITES

  • Build and maintain a calendar of events for the year and oversee registration and preparation (logistics, setup, etc.) for admissions events.

  • Create and maintain an outreach list.

  • Update Google Slide presentations for informational sessions and Open House events

  • Set up and prepare admissions event


DATA ANALYSIS RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate enrollment data with admissions leadership to determine enrollment strategies and meet enrollment targets

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial/start-up environment and adapt to changing priorities and needs

  • Big picture thinker

  • Strong understanding of admissions funnel and how to optimally engage at each stage

  • Database maintenance

  • Ability to work independently with diverse constituents while maintaining high professional standards

  • Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to establish and manage multiple priorities, creatively problem-solve and to work under pressure

  • Excellent oral and written communication 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or communications preferred

  • 3-4 years relevant sales experience. 1 year of internal admissions experience preferred

  • Experience within education or a true passion for working within Nursery-12 education

  • Must be comfortable with nontraditional work hours; evenings and some weekends per month are a must

  • Social media experience

  • Google Suite skills are absolutely essential

  • French speaker preferred

Part-time Science Teacher

We are looking for a part-time science teacher in grades K–4, in a push-in model twice a week, working in close collaboration with the homeroom teachers. Please email us with your resume and cover letter.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Classroom Strategies and Behaviors: Communicating learning goals and feedback, establishing rules and procedures; helping students interact with new knowledge, practice and deepen new knowledge, and generate and test hypotheses; engaging students; recognizing adherence to norms and procedures; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with students; communicating high expectations for all students.

  • Planning and Preparing: Planning and preparing for lessons and units, resources and technology, needs of English language learners, needs of neurodiverse learners and differentiated learning styles, implementation of culturally responsive classrooms, working in close collaboration with the homeroom teachers. 

  • Reflecting on Teaching: Evaluating personal performance as well as developing and implementing a professional growth plan.

  • Collegiality and Professionalism: Promoting a positive environment; promoting an exchange of ideas and strategies; promoting our school and its community’s development.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.   

  • Preferred: postgraduate degree; teaching credential or license, generalist or domain specific.

  • French speakers preferred.

  • 3-5 years classroom experience.

  • Evidence of content mastery.

  • Experience with FOSS (NGSS Certified Science Curriculum) preferred

  • Proficient use of Google suite.

  • Grant permission for a criminal background check upon hire.

Lead Teacher

Associate Teacher

  • Collaborating with Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate curricula

Afterschool Program Junior Counselor

PART-TIME POSITION
Under the guidance of the Afterschool Coordinator, the Junior Counselor assists with the implementation of the Smith Street Arts & Lettres Afterschool Program (La Garderie) at 80 Clinton Street in Brooklyn. We welcome students 3–9 years old.

HOURS
Our aftercare program (La Garderie) runs Monday through Friday from 3:00–6:00pm. This is a part-time position of 4 to 8 hours a week. There is an opportunity to work during the summer from June–August, but availability during the school year is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and supervise children during all activities

  • Assist children with meal/snack time and clean-up

  • Clean-up site when children depart — inspect and return supplies to the appropriate place

  • Follow proper cleaning requirements and procedures

  • Ensure that site appearance, cleanliness and safe environment are appropriately maintained

  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and child care licensing guidelines in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children primary focus

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Must speak French fluently

  • Must be 16+ years old

  • Prior experience with young children preferred (either at home or in a school or enrichment program)

  • Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality are required

  • Availability to work during program hours at least 2 days a week from 4pm–6pm (or 3pm-6pm) throughout the school year


COMPENSATION

  • Hourly, non-exempt position

  • $15/h


Afterschool Program Associate Teacher

PART-TIME POSITION
Under the guidance of the Afterschool Coordinator, the Associate Teacher assists with the implementation of the Smith Street Arts & Lettres Afterschool Program (La Garderie) at 80 Clinton Street in Brooklyn. We welcome students 3–9 years old.

HOURS

  • Prepare and gather materials and supplies prior to programs daily

  • As needed, differentiate lessons and activities so they are appropriate for students of various ages and with various abilities

  • Assist and supervise children during all activities

  • Assist children with meal / snack time and clean-up

  • Clean-up site when children depart — inspect and return supplies to the appropriate place

  • Follow proper cleaning requirements and procedures

  • Ensure that site appearance, cleanliness and safe environment are appropriately maintained

  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and child care licensing guidelines in a proactive manner, making the safety and care of children primary focus
