How to Apply


Thank you so much for your interest in our program! Every year, Smith Street Arts & Lettres welcomes more than 180 students on three Brooklyn campuses. We encourage every family to apply as soon as possible.

Applications for the 2024–25 school year opened in mid-September, with an application deadline of December 15, 2023 for regular cycle admissions. Families are welcome to apply past the initial deadlines. These applications will be reviewed promptly, on a first-come, first-served basis and we will issue admissions decisions for these applications as seats become available. If you would like to be considered for the 2024-25 school year, please let us know right away and complete your application as soon as possible. Please email our admissions office for more information!

STEP 1:
SUBMIT AN INQUIRY FORM

The process is the same whether you are interested in applying for our Maternelle program (preschool) or our Elementary program (K–5th Grade).

 

STEP 2:
ATTEND AN INFORMATION SESSION
& OPTIONAL SITE VISIT

Attending an in-person or virtual information session is the best way to get to know our program! All families are encouraged to attend an information session, but please note it is a required part of the admissions process for Pre-K and up.

 

STEP 3:
APPLY ONLINE

After submitting the Inquiry Form, you will receive instructions to log into the password-protected Family Portal where you may begin an application. A non-refundable application fee of $100 is due when submitting your application.

Families applying for financial aid can start the process shortly after submitting the application form. Applications are due by December 15, and supplementary materials (Pre-K+) must be submitted by January 11, 2024.

PLEASE NOTE
An application is not considered complete until all steps listed below have been completed:

  5. For Pre-K+: Confidential School Report

Once you have completed the above, your application will be automatically submitted.


STEP 4:
FAMILY MEETINGS & PLAYDATES

Once the application is submitted, families may be invited to a Family Meeting for the adults of the family with members of the admissions committee, and/or a Child Playdate or School Visit, depending on the grade they are applying for.


STEP 5:
ADMISSIONS DECISIONS

Admissions decision and reply dates vary depending on the age of your child. Notifications will be sent by email according to timelines established by the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY).


STEP 6:
FINALIZE ENROLLMENT

Once admitted to Arts et Lettres, families must return an electronically completed, signed enrollment agreement along with a $5,000 non-refundable deposit according to ISAAGNY reply dates (usually one week from the notification date). Families not receiving an admissions offer may be invited to join our wait list.
