La garderie
Our elementary aftercare program, La garderie, runs until 6:00pm every full day of school. Under the watchful and nurturing guidance of Smith Street Arts & Lettres instructors, children enjoy a variety of structured activities, as well as free play, all en français !
During La garderie children explore arts, crafts, movement and games, and participate in activities focusing on teamwork, problem solving, imagination, and storytelling. La garderie is a wonderful way to extend your child’s time spent in French after school in a structured yet relaxed environment.
There are two options for childcare using La garderie.
1. Stand-alone coverage from 3:00–6:00pm
2. Add-on to an Enrichment class from 4:15–6:00pm
Due to strong demand for La garderie as an add-on to Enrichment classes, spots are limited after 4:15pm. We suggest you select your Enrichment Classes first, adding La garderie as needed, then register separately for the days you’d like La garderie only.
Whether as an add-on or a stand-alone registration, you will register for La garderie by weekday for the full semester (every Monday that school is open, for example).
Location:
La garderie for all students (K-4) will take place at 80 Clinton Street
For students in grades 1–4, a staff member will walk them to 80 Clinton Street
Pick-up is always at 80 Clinton Street

La Garderie Policies
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures:
Students will be escorted from their classroom to La garderie by their teacher. Please send a snack from home. Children can be picked up any time before 6:00pm.
Parents must have their child picked up at dismissal time. La garderie ends promptly at 6:00pm. There is a $1 per minute late fee charged after 6:00pm for every minute after the 5-minute grace period. Teachers have obligations after hours and can not stay past 6:00pm.
All authorized pick-ups must enter and sign the child out through the entrance on 80 Clinton Street. Children may only leave with a parent, guardian, or person listed as “authorized pick up” on Veracross. Please make sure to keep this information updated.
Individuals unknown to the staff will be asked to show identification (even if they are on the list). No child will be released to an unknown or unauthorized adult. We appreciate your patience as we ensure a safe dismissal process for all of our students. Please notify the school regarding any changes in pickup information.
Schedule Changes:
Registration is per semester, for all dates school is in session. Once the semester begins, you may add days to your child’s La garderie schedule, or change the day of the week, as space allows. We do not offer refunds for a reduction in number of days your child attends La garderie.
Cancellations:
La garderie will be closed whenever Smith Street Arts & Lettres is closed due to inclement weather, air quality concerns or other necessary closure. Credits will not be issued for days when school is closed. The school will notify families in the event of an early dismissal for any reason.
Absences:
If your child will not attend their regularly scheduled after-school program on a particular day, please email us by 2:00pm to indicate a change in your child’s dismissal for the day. If your child should become ill during La garderie, we will call home to have the child picked up from school. If a child misses La garderie due to illness or schedule conflict, we cannot offer a refund or a makeup class.
